Now THAT was some game!

Where's that K-state dude who was talking junk a few posts back? Where is he? His team is fading big time and the "Squawks" are rolling. Awesome!!!

Wow. I had completely forgotten about that. I'd probably hold back on saying anything about that though, as he considers KSU losing a blessing this year, because he wants Wooly gone.

Speaking of which, I think the wildcats should try to get Mark Turgeon for next year. I know, he hasn't proven himself anywhere huge, and everyone is talking about people like Bob Huggins, but KSU should really give him a look.

Turgeon's done some amazing things at WSU. Also, I'd be more ok with him going to KSU than freaking SHIZZOO.

On the other hand, maybe he'll just stay at WSU. I'd be alright with that as well. I've got to admit, if he had the backing of a major university in the big 12, he'd make me pretty nervous.

Hey, I haven’t gone back and checked the official record yet, but I forgot the rule where if KU beat OU by one in an embarrassingly officiated game, it suddenly meant that KU got 10 extra bonus points in the K-State game a month prior, thus actually allowing the Squawks to win.

I forgot that rule. Thanks for pointing it out anonymous, you friggen loser.

Second, Bob Huggins is not going to get the K-State job because Bob Huggins is a thug and K-Stater’s aren’t. We don’t bring in people that are famous for graduating 1% of their players. We also don’t allow our coaches to take tests for our players (cough, cough, squak)

Third, as a pure-bred, purple-blooded K-Stater, let me say Mark Turgeon will never coach K-State. Never, ever in a million years ever. I would never attend a game he coached, neither would 98% of the rest of real K-Staters. We don’t hire Squawks.

Fourth, Turgeon isn’t a great coach, and someday he will be hired away from WSU despite that fact. What’s he done? I mean, honestly, what has he done? First, realize that it isn’t like WSU is devoid of any basketball tradition. Sure it’s JV compared to KU’s and K-State’s. but WSU does have some history of having good basketball teams and has had its fair share of quality players in years past. So it’s not like the Turd invented basketball in Wichita. Wichita isn’t a terrible place to run a mid-major basketball program either. It’s a major city with descent suburb support and it’s the only horse in a one-horse town. As far as sports of any kind go, it’s obviously the best choice in the city. K-State and KU are to far too frequently travel for short basketball games. Ditto on OU and OSU. (football being a longer event is a little different). Wichita’s semi-pro sports have all always kind of been a joke too, so there’s a heck of a market for a good mid-major team in Wichita.

Plus, Wichita produces good athletes. There have been a ton of very good BB players come out of Wichita, even recently (check Taj down at OU, for one example). So there’s a fairly fertile recruiting base for a mid-major. Considering one or two players in the city will go to a real D1 school, there still should be plenty for WSU.

WSU also, as I’ve pointed out, plays in a mid-major conference. Sure there’s good teams and good players and good coaches, but there’s no GREAT teams. There’s no powerhouses, no programs that will shell out for the top facilities, top coaches. No schools that can be in the same breath as probably 11 of the Big 12 schools (Baylor freaking blows). What I’m getting at is that there is opportunity for WSU. Creighton is good, but no one is great and a solid WSU team should be able to make some hay.

But they haven’t. The class that just graduated was supposed to be the “one”. With Howard and those guys that were supposed to be so amazing WSU picked up … zero MVC titles and a couple NIT wins. Yippy. Tom Asbury did that at K-State and got his ass run off as if he’d been caught pissing in the president’s flower garden. With all Turd has going for him, he hasn’t gone anywhere or done anything. No titles. No NCAA. Yeah, they might make it this year, but didn’t we all say that last year and the year before too?

Lets all stop pretending WSU isn’t Gonzaga or Cincinnati. It’s cute that they all think they’ve arrived, that they’re big dogs and ready to knock some skulls around the nation, but the MVC isn’t the old Conference USA.WSU isn’t Gonzaga. Hell, they’re not even Creighton or Southern Illinois. Do they put “big time” basketball programs on the bracket-buster games? Uh … no.

So no, the Turd will not coach K-State.

Who will? Bla, I have no idea. Last year everyone wanted Matt Doherty, now at Florida Atlantic. He probably got somewhat of a raw deal at UNC, but he’s only 9-10 this season and I think that bandwagon has stalled a bit. Some people mention Huggins, but I’d hardly call that support deafening. It’s more like an annoying cell phone in a crowded theater. It won’t happen.

Who then? I have no idea. I didn’t see Ron Prince coming from anywhere to be the football coach and so far he’s been friggen’ pimptastic. Weiser (KSU’s athletic director) has a lot of respect right now for the Prince hire, and he’s earned it. He showed he can go outside the box, (inside the box was someone on the Snyder family tree) and come up with a great candidate. There were rumors last year that he had some really great candidates all lined up, but he got overruled in the firing of Wooly so nothing ever happened.

My choice? I want Rick Majarus, the fatty who used to be at Utah. He’d be perfect. He can coach. He’s sorta looking to get back in to things. We can afford to pay him a bunch b/c Wooly’s making a ton and Prince isn’t. I want him!

As for this season. Hey, we lose close games. That’s the Wooly-way. That’s the way it’s always been. His players transfer, he wins semi-nice non-conference games and he chokes away close games always on the road and often times at home in the Big 12. He also never takes advantage of big wins/streaks, i.e. this season’s 3-in-a-row, KU, aTm and MU. The last couple weeks have been just more of the same. I am thankful though. Damn near the only close road game that he has ever won was at KU this season. Go figure.

Oooh, someone got fired up. Hilarious. You'd go for Doherty but not Turg? Doesn't Doherty have a Squawk connection too? I agree about Turgeon though. He needs to break through at WSU before he'll get consideration at a major school. It's looking more and more like that could be this year though. I wasn't trying to diminish KSU's victory over KU last month...I was only trying to point out that the Squawk's aren't choking away close games lately. In fact, they are going to end up 2nd or 3rd in the Big 12 and will go to the Big Dance once again while K-State will be watching it on tv from Manhappenin'. I'm glad the Fresh Prince has given K-Staters hope though. I hear he's scary smart.

seriously, anon, who are you?

I gotta figure out a way to force people to pick a name before they can post.

I heard some people on KC radio debating the Doherty at KU issue and it reinforced my thoughts. Althought they were talking about it from a Mizzou standpoint, the same ideas stand.

Turd was a KU guy. He is a KU guy. He went there and played there. His name is forever linked with KU. If you say "Who is that" in refernece to the Turd, his playing at KU is part of the answer. It's part of who is he at this point.

Doherty on the other hand was an assistant coach. In the "story of his life" that part might not even get mentioned. He didn't grow up cheering for KU. He isn't a part of KU and KU isn't a part of him. I really think there's a difference.

Someone PURE KU won't coach at K-State or Mizzou. Someone with small KU ties might.
